Altman and Amodei call for international AI cooperation at the UN

The CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic spoke at the United Nations after Trump rejected what he called a "globalist scheme" to control AI, according to CNBC.

According to the Financial Times, Amodei called for "narrow" safety agreements: common model testing standards and a notification system for internationally significant AI incidents. Altman called for "extreme care" with AI, according to Yahoo. Hours earlier, a Bloomberg post on X said he would propose global standards.

According to analysts cited by CNBC, AI safety will also be on the table when Trump and Xi Jinping meet. In Congress, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar introduced a bill to ban the development of artificial superintelligence, with penalties of up to 20 years in prison, according to The Verge.
