BlackRock: AI could become one of crypto's biggest drivers

In a paper published today, the world's largest asset manager says the demand AI agents could generate is underappreciated. On X, a post about the paper passed 8,000 likes.

198.9 million payments

Source: Stablecoin Insider

The paper is called "The Machine-Native Economy." According to BlackRock, an agent buying data, compute or a service runs into today's payment rails: opening an account and authorizing payments can require a person, and card fees make cent-sized payments unworkable. Stablecoins solve part of that because they run 24 hours a day.

There is already volume. Since May 2025, Coinbase's x402 protocol has processed about 198.9 million payments worth USD 52.7 million, 99.6% of them in USDC, according to Stablecoin Insider. Yesterday Coinbase added more than 6,000 stocks to "Coinbase for Agents," and agents can pay for market data with x402 from their USDC balance. Today the Cardano Foundation enabled x402 payments in ADA, although the service that processes those payments is not yet live on mainnet. Concordium said on X that it joined the x402 Foundation as a member.

BlackRock mentions a longer-term possibility: tokenizing compute capacity so it can be traded or used as collateral. The same paper notes that this market does not exist yet.

Coinbase traces USD 1.1 million behind EvilTokens, an AI phishing service

The service was sold by subscription and used AI to find, inside stolen email, who can approve payments at a company.

According to CryptoSlate, Coinbase's intelligence team followed about USD 1.1 million in payments across four Tron addresses between October 2025 and June 2026 and passed its analysis to London's Metropolitan Police. That figure is the service's revenue, not victims' losses. EvilTokens targeted about 10,000 organizations and compromised more than 12,000 mailboxes.

Anthropic says Claude found an unknown enzyme system in bacterial viruses

It is the first result from Anthropic's new biology lab. Nearly 1,000 Claude agents worked for 21 hours and used 210 million tokens, according to the company.

The system sits in the DNA of bacteriophages. Next to the enzyme's gene is a long array of repeating DNA, a structure Anthropic says looks somewhat like CRISPR. The company wrote on X that it does not yet know what the system does, and that the few known systems with these features can cut, copy and paste DNA.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei wrote on X that the discovery's precise function, biotech utility and significance are not yet clear. According to Amodei, the life sciences team suggested a broad research area, Claude read the literature and genome data, found the system and proposed the experiments, and the human team ran them in the lab. Anthropic's post on X passed 13,000 likes.

Altman and Amodei call for international AI cooperation at the UN

The CEOs of OpenAI and Anthropic spoke at the United Nations after Trump rejected what he called a "globalist scheme" to control AI, according to CNBC.

According to the Financial Times, Amodei called for "narrow" safety agreements: common model testing standards and a notification system for internationally significant AI incidents. Altman called for "extreme care" with AI, according to Yahoo. Hours earlier, a Bloomberg post on X said he would propose global standards.

According to analysts cited by CNBC, AI safety will also be on the table when Trump and Xi Jinping meet. In Congress, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar introduced a bill to ban the development of artificial superintelligence, with penalties of up to 20 years in prison, according to The Verge.

ChatGPT Voice now uses email, calendar and Slack; Muse is the most downloaded app in the US

OpenAI said on X that voice mode can use plugins, run on GPT-6 Astra, Sol and Luna, and work inside ChatGPT Work on web and mobile.

According to TechCrunch, Plus and Pro users can use the Work tab on their phones to ask by voice for documents, presentations or sites, while Free and Go users get plugins and connected apps. OpenAI says the feature is rolling out globally today in the latest version of the app.

Muse, Meta's agent that shops and schedules, is the most downloaded app in the US, according to the Financial Times, which reports that Mark Zuckerberg will unveil new AI products. Earlier, Wired reported that Meta fixed a zero-day vulnerability in the Muse app for Mac.

NYSE signs with Blockchain.com, MoonPay buys North Capital and six Canadian banks test tokenized deposits

Blockchain.com wants to offer tokenized US stocks and ETFs to more than 44 million accounts through the platform the New York Stock Exchange is planning.

The NYSE deal is a non-binding memorandum and depends on regulatory approvals, according to Unchained. MoonPay is paying more than USD 60 million in stock for North Capital, a firm with SEC broker-dealer registrations; the purchase also needs approval, according to CoinDesk.

In Canada, RBC, TD, BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC and National Bank are exploring a shared network of tokenized Canadian-dollar deposits. The first phase covers only transfers between the banks themselves and has no launch date, according to Decrypt.

Kalshi denies a CFTC probe as Democrats call for a public hearing on prediction markets

Kalshi told CoinDesk the CFTC has not contacted it and that the repeated USD 5,500 trades in its ether futures come from liquidity incentives.

Every Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee asked committee chair Tim Scott for a public hearing on prediction markets. Today the committee's Republicans met privately with Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour, according to The Block.

Patrick Witt, the White House crypto adviser, blamed Democrats and banks for the Clarity Act's defeat in the Senate and said the work now shifts to regulators such as the SEC, according to CoinDesk. A financial disclosure filed today shows Trump's accounts bought up to USD 115,000 in Strategy shares in July, according to Unchained.
